I question the use of the name "Mid-Lothian." Did Mr. C. R. Routon in his MS thesis "History of the Midlothian Coal Mines," University of Richmond, ciria 1948, use the hyphenated name? I know Mrs. Bettie Weaver used the hyphenated name in a later book, but did not give any reason for her use. Mr. Routon taught history and "civics" at Midlothian High under Mr.. M. R. Schools for quite a few years, before moving on to be a principal at another school in the Chesterfield school system. Many years prior to the present Park, the woods were very a quite place to hike (as a BSA) and camp. My son sent me this link. Maybe Mrs. McGuire would offer an answer.

Beautifully done - very nice place to take a break and get outdoors, back to nature, and learn as well.

It's a wonderful peaceful place to walk the dog and learn a little history too.

This park is a real gem for Chesterfield residents especially those who are fortunate to live nearby. Thanks to all those who made it possible.

I cannot believe how quiet and peaceful the park is when we visit. Everyone we meet along the paths is respectful, but friendly.
